:: Silverbridge prove just too strong for B-team (10/05/06)
Carrickcruppen B 1-9; Silverbridge B 3-12
The Cruppny minor contingent proved to be the stars of the show last night as Silverbridge defeated Carrickcruppen by 1-9 to 3-12, in what was an entertaining and hard fought game. Having failed to register a score against the Silverbridge team just two weeks previously, and lining out without a host of supposed senior starlets, Carrickcruppen were faced with a huge task and a heavy defeat was expected.
However, undaunted by the bigger, more experienced side, a Cruppen team littered with minors held their own and battled their way to a slight half time deficit of only 2 points. In the second half the Cruppen lads again fought bravely and, but for poor distribution and ball handling by some of the more senior players, could have taken the lead. This proved not to be the case however and Silverdridge scored two late goals, despite the best efforts of Cruppen stopper Darren McNally.
Throughout the field Carrickcruppen had some inspired performances. Most noticably, in defence, the fine shot stopping of Tyson in goals, the hard tackling and endless running of Paddy Quinn and Michael Lynch, and the speed and thrilling runs of John Magill (it remains a crime that he is not invited to the senior panel). In the middle, James Hughes and Micheal Kane (when introduced) held their own. Up front, cruppen suffered from lack of pace but Mark Rice and Simon Frizzel gave their all. A special mention must also be given to returnee John McCauley and Conor O'Hanlon who performed admirably when introduced.
Overall, a much improved performance from recent weeks, a fitter more settled team in the future could do wonders. Good luck to the seniors against Silverbridge on Friday, hopefully they will fair much better.
:: B-Team suffer defeat to Mullaghbawn (02/05/06)
Carrickcruppen B 0-6; Mullaghbawn B 0-07
On the back of recent poor performances, Carrickcruppen came into this game as major underdogs but surprised many in the first half with their high work rate and speedy play to rush into a 4-2 half time lead. The second half however was to prove a far less glamorous affair as the cruppen men spent most of the second period camped in their own half of the field. All too often indecisive passing and poor tackling lead to easy Mullaghbawn scores, helping them to a final 0-7 to 0-6 victory.
Aside from the dissapointment of defeat, the carrickcruppen lads can take alot from todays performance. It was a definite improvemnt from recent games and was capped off by some excellent individual displays. In goals, Tyson McNally played with confidence and was blasting his kickouts out the field. At the back, Niall Cowan's commanding bursts of speed to win ball were the key to a 'man of the match' performance with Michael Smith snapping at his heels. In the middle, the two James's caught alot of ball with james Hughes inparticular showing his senior pedigree with some great movement and distribution. In the forwards, Fuzzy showed constantly while big Michael Finnegan was a constant threat when supplied with ball.
Hard luck lads, keep up the effort and a win is definitely on the cards in the near future.
